Yesterday, I was asked to fill-in for our scheduled volunteer Bible study teacher...
Something came up and he couldn't make it. This was a last minute thing with little time to prepare. So I had to do a lot of silent praying to come up with a study.
I took the men to the 37th Psalm. We read each verse, one at a time. Then the guys took their turn to read it, and expound on it. I wanted them to see things about each verse in ways they never saw it before.
As we paused to discuss each verse in this lengthy Psalm, I asked the men if it revealed one or more of the following themes:
Patience
Comfort
Hope
Warning
Strength
God's promises
God's goodness
Encouragement
We didn't have enough time to get through the entire Psalm. But I do believe the Lord opened up the Scriptures in a unique way. The men, including myself, discovered things about each verse that we never saw before. We found at least one or more of the themes I listed in each one we read.
