I've been enjoying the cold weather as I go outdoors most evenings for fresh air, exercise, and to find a sense of solace...
Above me is a coal-black sky with only an occasional star to be seen. Bright prison lights obscure most other stars, with the exception of a few twinkling lights far above.
The stinging winds of winter greet me as well. Winds both mild and strong will blow across my face. While at times there will be no wind at all, only a dense coldness, and a trail of steam from my breathing. Me bundled tightly in my prison issued coat, a green scarf wrapped around my neck, my woolen watch cap stretched to its fullest.
This is all a gift from God. I've got miles to walk in the cold. It's invigorating. The biting chill makes me to feel alive. I walk, dream, silently pray. I will also think, over and over, of the hot cup of sweet tea I will fix for myself when I return to my cell.
