A college student, who came across my testimony, reached out to me...
Here is my reply:
I hope this letter finds you doing well, and that your faith continues to grow as you go forward on your journey with Jesus. Thank you for your encouraging letter. I was thrilled to know that my story of forgiveness, redemption and hope has been a source of inspiration for you. How that Christ can forgive even the worst of criminal offenders if they are willing to repent of their sins and place their faith in Him.
I am happy to know that you, too, have placed your trust in the Lord. And how the Lord protected you from what you said were the "powers of darkness and evil" which you believe had taken control of your life until you called upon the Lord for help, while also asking Him to forgive you for all your sins. As Jesus has promised in the Scriptures, "Whom the Son sets free, is free indeed" (John 8:36).
Like you, I cannot thank the Lord enough for what He has done for me. How He was even watching over me when I didn't know Him as my Savior, and while I was in my own miserable world of shame, torment, and guilt. I thought I had no hope, and I was even thinking of taking my life when Jesus showed up. As I have stated many times, if not for the Lord's intervention, I would be in hell right now.
It's only by God's grace that Satan didn't steal my soul. I see that you were in a similar frame of mind when you thought of bringing harm to yourself, as well. Robert, you and I are truly survivors. We have much to be thankful for.
But now it’s time to move on. Messiah Jesus has granted us the chance to start a new life in Him. So please focus the eyes of your heart on the Lord and what He has for you today, and what He will do for you in the future. Do not waste your time on what the devil did in the past when he had you as a slave to sin. You're free now. Jesus has broken those chains of demonic bondage. So be glad.
It's time to walk in the "newness of life" (Romans 6:4). Sin has already lost its power over you through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. And the Lord himself has already paid for our sins with His own blood. Therefore, dear brother, live your life as a free man. We are no longer slaves to Satan. We are now members of God's holy family. That is good news indeed!
