But I confess my sins; I am deeply
sorry for what I have done.
Psalm 38:17 NLT
Many prisoners swim in a sea of regret...
sorry for what I have done.
Psalm 38:17 NLT
Many prisoners swim in a sea of regret...
I know this to be true because a number of my fellow felons have told me how much they regret the choices they made in the past – choices that resulted in causing physical harm to others, and even hurting their own loved ones by those same bad choices. Prisoners live in a world of self-inflicted pain, and I'm one of them.
But since repenting of my sins and asking Messiah Jesus to come into my heart, the level of regret, remorse, and sorrow which at one time had so greatly consumed me, has diminished substantially. I credit the Lord for this.
Regret is normal. If I never felt regret over my crimes, I would not be human. But the Lord has done such a mighty work within my heart and soul that I cannot refrain from wanting to tell people about His goodness and mercy.
Yet, even simply wanting to tell others about God's kindness and His love for everyone does not come without cost. Why? Because there are those who refuse to believe my story of redemption. And they can be quite vocal about it.
While it saddens me that this is sometimes the case, I find it encouraging how even the Lord Jesus Himself encountered disbelief and hostility amongst the people. Some even wanted to kill Him. So if they wanted to kill Jesus, I could only imagine what they'd want to do with me.
Nevertheless, I will not stop proclaiming that Messiah Jesus forgives sin. He heals broken hearts, restores damaged souls, and helps those who trust in Him to overcome regret.
