The fellowship group I belong to here at the prison readily encourages prayer...
We take time to pray before the start of every worship service and Bible study, and we do the same at the end of each gathering as well. While the last Wednesday of every month is set aside just for prayer.
Our congregation welcomes any and all prayer requests and petitions that are set before us. I've had Muslim inmates ask me to pray for a loved one, and for me that's a joyous honor.
We pray for missionaries, and for other nations, too. While earlier today, the guys all joined in prayer for the countries of Turkey and Syria, both of which were struck by a severe earthquake. And we will continue to pray for them for as long as is necessary
We also prayed for our own urgent needs. Two of the men have a parent who has advanced cancer. Another has a child facing surgery. One man has a wife who was injured in a car accident. Still, another requested prayer for a son who'd been arrested for riding in a stolen car.
We likewise pray for the prison's staff along with offering prayers for our governmental leaders, and so
much more. The Bible says to "Pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17). That is what we do. Our prison chapel is truly a house of prayer.
