A short time ago, I received a letter from a friend who wrote to tell me about a YouTube video she and her husband happened to come across...
It was a portion of an interview I gave with Inside Edition. It was so long ago that I can’t even remember it. But the section was on how I found God while in prison.
I know there’s a lot of media material out there. Some good, some not. Some accurate, and some grossly inaccurate. As with many media stories in general, fake news abounds.
In any event, I cannot but emphasize how painful my criminal past is for me. Even to this very day, I live with much anguish, sorrow, and regret. I wish that none of that “Son of Sam” stuff ever happened. My demonically deranged actions not only hurt strangers, but my birth and adopted families as well. What happened those many years ago devastated them and broke their hearts.
Yet thanks to the Lord, He has put many good friends in my life, some of whom I have now known for several decades. In addition, my story of forgiveness, redemption, and hope continues to go out touching lives and bringing hope to many. For this, I am very thankful.
How unfortunate for the Devil. He had his chances to kill me. He took the lives of some of my associates. I’m sure he was hoping the arresting police officers would’ve shot me on the spot, or that I would be forever silenced in prison. Yet almost forty-two years have passed, and by the grace of God, I’m still here. How frustrated Satan must be right now. Too bad for him.
