In addition to the brief summary I wrote in yesterday's journal entry, here's one more...
An inmate, who lives in the same cell block as me, asked me if he should stab a fellow inmate whom he considers to be an "enemy." I gave him a firm "No!" He's known to have a violent history and is doing a sentence of 30-years to life. I've known him for a long time, and he often comes to me for advice about one thing or another.
In my view, he has grown up a lot since the days of his youth. So I reminded him of what the Bible says about taking matters into one's hands and bringing harm to another out of the desire for revenge.
I also told him what would happen if he did hurt that man. That he'd be sent to the Special Housing Unit, more commonly known by prisoners as "The Box," probably for many years. That he'd probably get more time added to his already long sentence, too. Thankfully, he listened to me, and he let me pray for him as well. He also tossed his handmade knife into the trash. Thank God!
