And He (Jesus) said unto them, Go
ye into all the world, and preach
the gospel to every creature.

ye into all the world, and preach
the gospel to every creature.
Mark 16:15
A short while ago, I finished writing a letter to my friend, Hayato...
He is a young man who lives in Midori-City, Japan. Until recently, he was of the Buddhist faith.
Hayato told me he had become "dissatisfied" with Buddhism. So, after he and I exchanged letters last year, Hayato made the decision to place his faith in Jesus Christ. I was overjoyed at the news.
Hayato also asked me to give him a "Christian" name. It was an odd request; it's even funny in an innocent way. I assume that he read in the New Testament that when someone placed his faith in the Lord, he was given a new name. Saul of Tarsus became the apostle Paul. Even Jesus Himself renamed His original disciples. So I assume this is where Hayato got the idea from.
Of course, as far as I know, the church in North America doesn't practice this custom today. But I thought that my friend had a cool idea. So I told Hayato that from now on his new Christian name will be "Rising Sun."
I said to Hayato, that this would be a good name for him because, being he is the only Christian in his family, and because there are very few Christians living in Japan, his role will be to "shine like the sun" for the Lord. I think he will like this name. Besides, Japan is known as the "Land of the Rising Sun."
