My friend Maury Terry passed away on December 10, 2015...
I had known him since 1978-79, if I remember correctly. It was a long time ago now, and my memories of those dark days are best forgotten. But it was at this time when Maury first reached out to me. We would remain in contact for many years thereafter.
I previously wrote an entry in my journal titled, "A Tribute to Maury Terry." It was to give honor and well-deserved recognition to a man who worked so hard to expose the evil that was behind the infamous Son of Sam shootings which, in 1976-77, left New Yorkers terrified.
Maury viewed those awful crimes from a broader perspective. As an independent investigative journalist, he went on to publish what was to become a bestseller. "The Ultimate Evil: An Investigation into the Son of Sam Murders." The book was controversial, thorough, and hard-hitting. Maury questioned many things about the case. And in my opinion, he was on the right track.
Although he didn't get everything right, he was nearer to the truth than most. Maury, although not fully understanding the spiritual aspects of the case, sensed it. And he was spot-on! As I have tried to say on many occasions throughout the years, the Son of Sam crimes were demonically driven. Sadly, the unfortunate victims were sacrifices to Satan.
And I, too, was enslaved by demons. For those who are familiar with my story, I believe that cruel demons had somehow begun to attach themselves to me when I was a young child, maybe from age five. I was clueless of this at the time. But many years later, and after I received Jesus as my Savior, a better understanding came upon me for the motivating factors for these crimes.
Looking back to when Maury first entered my life, although I was in a bad frame of mind at the time, he must have possessed something of a psychic sensitivity or intuition to see the Son of Sam shootings as more than a maniac with a gun. And Maury was right. There was a demonic force behind it. And for now, I will leave it at that.
But as those with a knowledge of the workings of the devil and an understanding of demons know, there is no bottom to this. Classic works such as THE CHRISTIAN IN COMPLETE ARMOUR by 17th Century writer William Gurnall, and BIBLICAL DEMONOLOGY by Bible Scholar Merrill F. Unger along with many others, have taught on the existence of demons and their works.
Yet Maury, even without any knowledge of the occult nor a biblical understanding of Satan, was able to put the pieces together. His keen investigative skills left him unsatisfied with the standard one size fits all profile that law enforcement and the media were running with. And I don't fault them either, as they too were blind to the existence of a spiritual realm that was empowering those awful crimes.
All told, Maury Terry was a dear friend of mine. We had our ups and downs, as do many friendships. But he was a good man who put his sharp investigative and journalistic skills to work. He provided good insight into the shootings, and with his passing the world lost a brilliant mind.
Maury was a gift from God, and I'm thankful to have known him. He passed away at the age of sixty-nine on December 10, 2015. This journal entry, which I have written from my prison cell on this Christmas day, is a tribute to him.
