Whatever is born of God overcomes the world: and this
is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith.

...year after year, only to find yourself stuck in a prison cell. But the reality is that first and foremost prisons are made for punishment. The powers that be want an offender to know that he is in here because he has committed one or more crimes, and must now face the harsh consequences for his misdeeds.
While, whatever else a particular correctional facility offers in the way of rehabilitative programs, is an extra. Things such as educational and therapeutic programs, learning a trade or working in an industrial shop, are the pluses in an environment that is mostly negative.
But what keeps me going is not my work assignment or the various programs that are offered, it is my faith in God. Knowing that my heavenly Father is with me means everything. Jesus is here, and he lives inside my heart.
All told, my Creator gives me the inner strength to endure incarceration. It's a truth I remind myself of every day. Otherwise, the constant swirl of negativity which surrounds me would eventually break my spirit, crush my bones, and leave me stuck in a deep state of depression.
I have my daily challenges. Every incarcerated individual does. But I can say with confidence that the Holy Spirit, who lives within me, is far more powerful than any toxic environment one may find himself in.
