I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and
who will go for us? Then I said, "Here am I, Lord. Send me!"
Isaiah 6:8
It was a difficult year for Judah...
who will go for us? Then I said, "Here am I, Lord. Send me!"
Isaiah 6:8
It was a difficult year for Judah...
Their king died. There were other problems as well. God's people were facing the prospect of a major war with Syria and her allies. The nation also experienced a catastrophic earthquake. Lives were lost. Cities and towns crumbled. Between the earthquake and the looming threat of war, and the political chaos which erupted after the death of the king, the hearts of the people had melted. Fear gripped the land.
But God had a plan. It was time to send forth a prophet, a spokesperson who would tell the people, "Listen to what the Lord says." When a man by the name of Isaiah, which means, "Salvation of Jehovah," heard God's cry of, "Whom shall I send?" the prophet's response was, "Lord, send me. I'll go and tell the people whatever you want me to."
Should it be any different today? The world is still in a mess and fear continues to grip many hearts. So again the Lord asks, "Who shall I send to represent me before today's generation?" My cry is, "Lord, I am willing to go. Send me!"
Speaking as a lay person, I believe it is the privilege of every "born again" and redeemed child of God to share his or her faith with those around them. Like the Samaritan woman who met Messiah Jesus at a lonely well, she could not resist telling everyone in her village, "Come see a man, which told me all the things I ever did: is this not the Christ, the Messiah?" (John 4:28-30).
What was the result of her bold step of faith? The Bible states that all the townspeople heeded her invitation and went out to meet him. "And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him because of what the woman said... And many more believed on him because of his own word" (John 4:39-41).
This is what I long to do, as well. To introduce a hurting and troubled world to the One who loves us, and died for our sins, and rose again. Jesus! He is the only One who could save our souls, and our planet as well.
This, therefore, is my goal for the coming year. To tell anyone who would listen that Messiah Jesus saves.
