"I am the light of the world: he who follows after me shall
not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."
Jesus Christ
We are now well into the Jewish holiday known as Hanukkah…

We are now well into the Jewish holiday known as Hanukkah…
It can also be referred to as the "Festival of Lights." Hanukkah commemorates the event of a small amount of oil lasting eight days instead of only a day, or less. It was a time of rejoicing as the holy Temple in Jerusalem was being cleansed and rededicated after being defiled by a wicked Syrian general by the name of Antiochus.
In this instance the light of God, as represented by a lamp of burning olive oil, chased away the spiritual darkness that had been brought on by the wicked Antiochus. He was, as many believe, a prototype of both the devil, and the yet future Antichrist. The latter, whom the Bible declares, will appear during a time known as the "last days."
Being that Hanukkah is the Festival of Lights, I decided to read the account of the formerly demon possessed man who'd been driven insane by a large number of evil spirits who kept him under their control. That is, until the Lord Jesus showed up on the scene. His was a divine encounter with the Messiah himself.
The story can be found in the New Testament's gospels of Mark and Luke. Meeting Jesus face to face, it was as if a light went off inside his tormented soul. He was set free from demonic enslavement in an instant. Gone were the creatures who inhabited him.
Light and love, salvation and deliverance. No more attempts at suicide. He was finished with living in a graveyard. At last, freedom. His was truly a life redeemed and restored.
I don't know when this man's deliverance occurred. But whatever day of the year it was, he indeed stepped into the Light. It was the light of Jesus.
