I survived surgery...
I know it was because the Lord's hands of protection were upon me. The surgery, however, did not go smoothly. Somehow, a piece of the ventilator came off and lodged deep in my throat, blocking the airway. I was heavily sedated at the time.
Yet, in spite of being under sedation, I awoke. I couldn't move or speak at the moment, but I was now aware that something bad was happening. I was choking. I had been in a state of unconsciousness because of the anesthesia. Yet I could feel myself gasping for air. Although unable to move my lips, I began to pray with my mind. I was calling upon the Lord Jesus Christ, pleading for help. Then, moments later, I was actually able to lift my head up. I was heavily drugged and everything was blurry. Yet I could in those few seconds see the shadowy outlines of those around me. It was then that I heard a female voice shout, "He's awake!" That's all I remember. When I awoke, I was lying on a gurney in Intensive Care.
The next day, one of the nurses who was present during the surgery came to check up on me. I asked her about the experience I had, and how I began to choke, unable to breathe. She then told me what happened. She said everyone was scared at first, and that it was unexpected. When they all realized what was happening, they had difficulty in trying to retrieve the cap. She said it took a while to get it out. She'd never seen anything like it before.
Once the cap was removed from my throat and reinstalled, the operation resumed. It went without a hitch after this, and I was okay. But the nurse did acknowledge that had they not gotten the piece out when they did, I could've died. The realization of this left me a little shaken. I was at death's door. It was a close call.
