God said, Let there be light:
and there was light.

Hanukkah, according to Jewish history and tradition, is also known as the "Festival of Lights." The holiday celebrates a miraculous event that took place in the holy Temple in Jerusalem, where a one-day supply of oil lasted for eight days. Today, gifts are usually exchanged in celebration of the miracle of the burning candle.
For me, however, in this season of Hanukkah, the lights literally went out. My two overhead fluorescent bulbs that are affixed to my cell's ceiling, burned out. So I've been sitting in the dark unable to read or write until daylight, arrives.
Besides this, I've come down with a bad case of the flu, even though I got a flu shot back in October. Feeling weak and very sick, and in the dark too, I'm beginning to wonder if this is an ominous portent of what awaits me in 2017? A divine warning of impending trials and troubles, and of hardships to come?
Perhaps sickness and darkness is God's way of telling me to stay close to Him? I know the Lord is with me now, and He will be with me tomorrow. Even at this very hour, His words for me are, "Fear Not!"
