Demon of Death

This morning’s worship service in the chapel went well, but there was a solemnness in the air, which was to be expected...

Friday’s massacre of so many children has left even prison inmates numb. But I was glad to see the men all requesting that prayer be said for the families of the victims.

But getting back to Friday’s tragedy, I do not want to dwell on it. Yet I was struck by some of the initial reports that the gunman, Adam Lanza, age 20, was clad in all black clothing when he committed his crimes. To me, this is significant.

While not knowing anything about the background of Mr. Lanza (and some of what is being said about him may indeed turn out to be inaccurate), the wearing of black clothing could be important in this case. Black, I know, is usually associated with death. It can be representative of vampires and the devil. Black is also a part of the Gothic trend, which is symbolic of darkness and doom. It can also represent evil, and this man’s actions were pure evil. Mental illness, yes, and perhaps. But evil nonetheless.

To me, it was as if he was acting the part of the Angel of Death. Well this past Friday he was most certainly the Demon of Death.
