He who has called you
out of darkness into
His marvelous light.
1 Peter 2:9
I am convinced that if God has placed a calling on someone's life...
out of darkness into
His marvelous light.

He has an important purpose for that person to fulfill. To be chosen by God is nothing to take lightly. This is the subject I had been talking about earlier today as I sat with a close friend. The call of the Almighty upon an individual is, for that man or woman, a very serious matter.
Interestingly, if anyone is familiar with the Bible, many times the Lord will choose the most ordinary people to accomplish the most extraordinary tasks. Jesus, as he began his ministry, handpicked a group of men that, if you saw them and knew their backgrounds, you would think He was making a big mistake.
The Lord chose a handful of local fishermen, a hated tax collector, a political zealot, and other unknowns whom he would then take under his wings to patiently teach and train to be his disciples. And, within the course of about three and a half years, they would become men of great faith full of the wisdom and power of the Holy Spirit. They would then go on to change the course of history.
This was impressed upon my heart today as I was reading the apostle Peter's first letter to the churches who were scattered throughout the continent at the time. "But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that you should show forth the praises of Him who has called you out of darkness (and) into His marvelous light" (1 Peter 2:9).

It also confirmed to me by what I had been reading from a devotional book titled, "The Impact of Ordinary People" by Reverend Don Wilkerson, the cofounder of Teen Challenge, and founder of Global Teen Challenge. Don Wilkerson is also the brother of the late Reverend David Wilkerson, who, along with his brother Don, established the successful Times Square Church in New York City's borough of Manhattan. As for myself, I am humbled and thankful that the Lord looked down the corridors of time and saw me. For reasons I do not know, He took pity on me. God rescued me from the satanic darkness I was trapped in, and brought me into His Light. What can I say but, "Thank you, Lord Jesus!" |
