In Luke's gospel account, there is an unusual reference mentioned by the Lord...
He tells His disciples to "Remember Lot's wife" (Luke 17:32).
Why did He feel the need to mention the Old Testament's account of the destruction of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah which occurred in centuries past, and where the wife of a man by the name Lot instantly became a pillar of salt after she turned around to look at her hometown one last time? What was Jesus trying to teach His disciples?
Many biblical scholars suggest the lesson was to let go of past regrets while allowing the Lord to take us where He wants us to go. In other words, it was time to move on. And I could relate to this because of my situation. No one can go in two different directions at the same time. With Lot and his wife, it was time to flee a land that was riddled with sin. Sodom was an awful place. There were bad memories that were best left forgotten.
This is a lesson I have been trying to learn for a very long time. And with God's help I am making progress.
