The thief comes only to steal,
and to kill, and to destroy.
John 10:10a
When we think of the word hijack…
and to kill, and to destroy.
John 10:10a
When we think of the word hijack…
...we usually picture someone commandeering a plane, or a tractor trailer loaded with merchandise, by taking the pilot or driver hostage with a gun to his head. To hijack, by its simplest definition, means to steal. And as strange as it may sound, I myself have been a victim of a hijacking.
It's true. But while my experience has not been as dramatic as someone putting a gun to my head or threatening to blow me up with a bomb, I have had my property hijacked, and more than once.
There's been many instances where my personal story has been taken possession of and hijacked by those wishing to exploit it for their own gain. In addition, these individuals have not only taken my story for their own use, but have shaped and bent it in whichever way they felt would help them to achieve their desired goal.
We know that in the world of entertainment, when it comes to true-crime stories, the more bizarre, the better. And within the genre of madness and mass murder and the like, comes the need (so they think) to create for these shows monsters and crazed killers that will draw in viewers.
Therefore, the producers and scriptwriters want to amuse viewers with whatever image or character they think would accomplish this. Enter the "Son of Sam." That ever-convenient monster. But they will put their own spin on the story, thus muddying the waters as to why this tragedy happened in the first place.
Talking head "experts" are summoned. Their opinions coveted. But are their ideas, beliefs and theories accurate? Sadly, many are not. They're merely products of their own opinions that are nothing but mere speculations. And the media eats this stuff up.
Throughout the past forty years, my life has been molded and shaped by the whims of the entertainment industry. I've heard the most absurd and ridiculous ideas and theories espoused as to why the crime spree happened, along with tales of my life that were untrue and inaccurate.
As I wrote in a recent entry, such private speculations by these "experts," if they were voiced in a courtroom setting, could be challenged. They would be compelled to explain how they arrived at their conclusions, and I believe their "professional" views would be shattered.
I grieve all the misinformation that gets put on the public. I hope and pray for the chance to share the true story of who David Berkowitz is, and the real factors behind the Son of Sam case.
Meanwhile, even though I grieve at what passes for amusement and entertainment, I rejoice that in spite of this my story of redemption thrives. Hope is being proclaimed. This is the real story that I believe people need to hear.
In the end truth always wins, and situations which at present seem to be bad, turn out for the good, and for the saving of many souls.
