For I reckon that the sufferings of this present
time are not worthy to be compared with the
glories that shall be revealed in us.
Romans 8:18
I have heard it said many times, “Cross today, crown tomorrow.”

Indeed, any Christian who is devoted to serving the Lord knows much about suffering, hardship, and difficulty. These are a big part in the life of a disciple, but so is peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Yet in spite of the so-called “good feelings” that come with being a Christian, my life is not a heavenly joyride, as some believe. Doing time in prison isn’t easy. There are hardships of different kinds, and loneliness. There’s danger, too.
Still, my faith in Jesus remains strong. The Lord has been faithful to sustain me all these years, and I cannot ask for anything more. As the readers of my journal know, I carry lots of pain and anguish over the lives that were taken in that demonically dark year of “Son of Sam.”
I lost all contact with my beloved family years ago. My dear father died without my being able to be by his side in his final days. Truly, with a life sentence comes much suffering, albeit, in my situation, much of it has been self-inflicted. But when all is said, God is good. His mercy endures forever.
