It was my turn to oversee and coordinate today's worship service...
It's an assignment that's shared by myself and two other men, which we do on a rotating basis every Sunday. So I opened the gathering by leading the congregation in a prayer. I then handed the microphone over to another member of the church to make the weekly announcements. Afterwards, the choir was called to lead us in a time of worship.
This was followed by me being allowed to give a message from the Scriptures. I read from First Corinthians 1:26-29, how the Lord oftentimes chooses those whom many would consider to be the lowest in society, and would then use them in good and unique ways. How God is not impressed by men of great reputation and wealth, nor by their levels of education. Instead, He seeks those who have hearts that are open to Him.
I went on to give some examples from the Bible of how the Lord called into His service prostitutes, thieves, and even murderers, and those who thought themselves to be weak and unworthy.
I told the men that God is very willing and happy to do the same with them. That He will never reject those who place their faith on the Lord Jesus Christ. I also declared that we who now belong to Him, though we be in prison, are as much a part of the body of Christ as those living outside the walls of Shawangunk.
