It is of the Lord’s mercies that
we are not consumed, because
His compassions fail not.

Our nation’s foundations appear to be crumbling. The country is in deep debt, while those whom we owe are yet to be paid. So perhaps it is only because of God’s mercy that America has not already been destroyed?
But one day it may happen. In fact, the Lord could at some point allow us to experience some kind of national catastrophe. God may permit this to happen so that we will begin to seek His face. Of course, God is not the author of catastrophe and calamity. Rather, the Lord, in His wisdom, may decide to remove His invisible hand of protection so that the desires of evil men can come to fruition. For the heart of man is very wicked, and the Bible makes this clear (Jeremiah 17:9).
Yet if one day America is visited by disaster, be it economic, political or social upheaval, this could result in many people losing their trust in material possessions. Their dependence upon things like money, a good job, with a comfortable retirement plan, or a nice home, will be lost. And if this happens, what then would be left for people to put their faith in? The Almighty God?
Yes, one day, perhaps in the not too distant future, the foundations of the United States of America will be shaken to her very core. It is a real possibility, and many people believe it will happen. But I also believe that God is not finished with us yet. But we need to repent, and turn from our sinful ways - and this includes myself - and we need to seek the Lord with all our hearts.
