Yesterday marked 32 years since my arrest...
It is not an anniversary to celebrate, however. But, by the grace of God, it is a milestone and a testimony to God's power to keep me safe, alive and healthy after more than thirty years of incarceration.
The period from 1976-77 will always be a bad memory. It was like a prolonged nightmare, and it is something of a dark blur, that, at least for myself, is not worth remembering. It was an evil and sad time, too. Not just for me, but for the families of my victims, and even for the citizens of New York City.
Of course, expressing my deepest regrets and my sincerest apologies will never suffice. Still, it is good and right to say these things, and to express my remorse by doing good, and making amends however and whenever possible. Talk, we know, can be cheap. But actions speak louder than words.
I hope, too, that through my writings and testimony, and through whatever opportunities the Lord provides me with, that I can do the best job possible in presenting Jesus Christ as the hope for mankind. Also, I hope to provide at-risk youth and young persons everywhere with a cautionary tale.
Yes, I want Christ to be honored by all I say and do. I desire to be a faithful witness to His love and mercy, and to show through my own life, God's power to forgive even the worst of transgressors.
