This morning, I was discharged from the hospital...
While I still have some minor pain and swelling remaining in and around the right kneecap, it is good to be free from being restricted to a room, especially since there was so little to do. But I suppose this was part of God's plan in the first place: For me to do as little as possible, because, more than anything else, I needed a prolonged period of rest.
Now, however, I am back in my cell. I've got a moderate pile of mail to answer. I'm behind in my correspondence because I was without my beloved typewriter. In addition, I must now transcribe my handwritten journal entries into typed form as a part of the editing process. And this won't happen overnight. I also had to clean up a week's worth of dust that settled on all my belongings.
Of course, I will miss my roommate, Steve. We shook hands and said our goodbyes. Very soon he'll be returning to the dismal Great Meadow Correctional Facility, with its horrific reputation as a "gladiator school." At Great Meadow, there are high levels of violence and lots of gang activity. I promised Steve that I would keep him in my prayers, and he seemed to appreciate this.
All said, I consider myself to be a man greatly blessed by God. I know the Lord cares for me, even to the point of allowing me to be laid up in the hospital. A swift kick in the right leg by a Shepherd who knows how to administer "tough love" is just what I needed, and what I got. Now I hope I have learned my lesson!
