It's Sunday evening. There was no church for me to go to today...
It felt peculiar not being able to attend services. I'd usually wake up around five o'clock every morning, no matter where I am. However, in the hospital there's enough light coming through the large windows which face the corridor, so that I could read without having to turn on the light that's over my bed, thereby possibly disturbing my roommates. And I've also been able to say my prayers before they awaken. In fact, other than the boredom, I love the quiet.
Breakfast is served around seven o'clock. Today I had a bowl of corn flakes with barely chilled milk (awful!) and three cold waffles that really needed to be warmed in a toaster. I also got several 4 ounce containers of juice. Then comes lunch at 12 noon, followed by supper at 5 P.M. No snacks are permitted in the hospital. So I'd usually eat half my meal when it is first served, and save the remainder for later.
But the good news is that I'm healing. The swelling in my leg has gone down considerably. In addition, the pain has subsided a lot, mostly because I've been staying off my feet as much as possible. I use a pair of crutches to maneuver my way around the room, too.
Meanwhile, my new friend Steve has been in a pensive and melancholy mood today. So he wasn't in his usual, talkative way. While, to my amazement, Nickel and Trek sleep all day. They'd get up to eat or use the toilet, but then crawl back under the covers for hours at a time. They've been this way since each was admitted. Living mummies!
