But God has shown His deep love for us, in that,
while we were yet in our sins, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8
One of the questions I am oftentimes asked is, "Will God forgive someone who deliberately takes another person's life?"
while we were yet in our sins, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8
One of the questions I am oftentimes asked is, "Will God forgive someone who deliberately takes another person's life?"
It's a valid question, and one that I wish to answer as wisely, delicately, and sensitively as I can.
And my answer is, if that person is truly remorseful and repentant, and has placed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and what he did on the cross by willingly sacrificing his life for our sins, that individual will be forgiven. He may, however, have to face society's justice and stand before a judge. He may also go to prison for many years, maybe even for the rest of his life. But as far as his sins go, the perpetrator of a criminal act, or acts, will receive God's forgiveness. His sins will be washed away by Christ's blood. God will never hold his transgressions against him.
This is not any easy concept to understand and accept. But the holy Bible backs this up. For example, the notable apostle Paul whom many consider to be one of the most devout and saintly men who ever lived, deliberately, and with malice, took the lives of many men and women who believed in Jesus. At the time he was committing his murderous acts, Paul was formerly known by the name of "Saul."
As a member of an exceedingly religious group of Jews known as the Pharisees, Saul went about the land of Israel rounding up and arresting, and even putting to death many of his fellow Jews who believed that Jesus was the promised Messiah.
But one day, Saul had a supernatural encounter with the Lord Jesus himself. Convicted by his despicable acts, he repented of his sins and the taking of innocent lives. Now converted and forgiven by the Almighty, Saul became Paul.
A humbled Paul went on to write about one-third of what is now the New Testament. Years later, this mighty servant of Christ died as a martyr in a Roman prison. The murderer was transformed into a minister. Paul would live on to bring the gospel to tens of thousands, which has since grown into the millions.
Yes, God forgives even killers.
