Right now, I’ve got some laundry to do...
My washing machine is a manual one. It’s not coin-operated, and neither does it use electricity. It operates solely on “David Power.” That’s me!
I take my 3-gallon plastic bucket and fill it with warm water from my sink. I add detergent which I can buy at the prison’s commissary, and I try to put a lot of energy into every item I wash. Everything’s done by hand.
After soaking an item in detergent for most of the day, I will rinse it out then wring it out to extract as much water as possible from the fabric. I will then hang it from my clothesline, which consists of several shoelaces that I tied together. My line stretches from one wall to another, but it’s strong enough to where I could hang several wet clothing items on it without the line coming down.
Each piece of clothing will then dry at its own pace, oftentimes having to be on the line for an entire day, and overnight. I call this “pioneer style,” and I’ve gotten pretty good at it.
