When my heart is overwhelmed, lead
me to the Rock that is higher than I.
Psalm 61:2
Life oftentimes seems to be filled with blessings from the Lord, but trouble from the devil, as well...

Last month, a pastor who was instrumental in helping me to grow in the faith, lost his 31-year-old daughter to gun violence. She was living out of state at the time. An apparently jealous rival shot both her and her boyfriend. He survived, but she did not. Upon learning about the tragedy, I quickly sent him and his wife a condolence card with words of comfort.
While just today I learned that a dear friend and sister in Christ, passed away. She and her husband have been corresponding with me for more than twenty years. She was eighty-three. And another believer in the Lord, whom I knew very well, lost his wife to cancer over the summer. Then, only a few weeks ago, lost his daughter unexpectedly. She developed an aneurysm in her brain and was gone within hours. She was in her early forties and leaves behind a husband and three kids.
Just because someone believes in Jesus Christ does not exempt him or her from experiencing the loss of a loved one, and the pain and anguish such a loss brings upon one’s heart and soul. Death is an enemy, indeed.
Yet, through it all, God is faithful. He will provide comfort and peace to His children to help sooth the pain. Our heavenly Father will give us the strength to go on. For those who have placed their faith in Jesus, death is not the end. It is only a passage and a doorway into heaven.
