I had to put aside my correspondence and finish it another day...
I’ve had a big interruption. A shouting match between neighbors which went on for hours - screaming, cussing, and mindless chatter. Things like this happen almost every day in here.
I found it impossible to think straight. Unfortunately, I always seem to get stuck with the worst neighbors, but to keep my sanity I retreated under my headphones. I turned up the volume on my little FM radio and let the music blast into my ears. It was my only escape from the more unpleasant sounds that surrounded me.
Confined to a cell, a man has few options. It’s not as if I could go for a walk and come back after the shouting was over and things quieted down. Prison has its own forms of punishment and pain that those who’ve never been incarcerated would never understand.
In addition, over the years, I have come to better understand the term the Bible uses to describe the final generations of mankind. That in the last days men shall become “brute beasts” (2 Peter 2:12 and Jude 1:10).
