"For Me"

​I wasn’t there
Some thousand years ago,
But I was on His mind –
And He died for me I know.

I wasn’t there,
But I denied Him.
I wasn’t there,
Still I betrayed Him.
And I know I was on His mind
When He said,
“Father, please forgive them...”

I wasn’t there
When He hung on the cross,
Dying between two thieves.
But He looked ahead in time –
And I know He died for me.

I denied Him,
I betrayed Him –
I cried out for His crucifixion.
I wasn’t there,
But I must have been on His mind
When He said,
“Father, please forgive them...”
