"The Lord is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble."

With it comes an awareness that the hot and humid season of summer is coming to its end. Cooler temperatures are on the way, which means better sleep and less sweating.
As is my usual, however, I am always looking for someone to encourage. And in this environment, there's no shortage of men who need their spirit uplifted. Prison, by its very nature, is not designed to produce contentment, inner peace, or joy. So this is where God's word comes in. Because, as a follower of the Lord Jesus, I know that He longs to give His peace to all who place their trust in Him, be they incarcerated or not.
And having now been locked up for almost fifty years, I know about feelings of hopelessness, despair, abandonment, loneliness, discouragement, frustration, and more. I've experienced it all. Yet since placing my faith in Jesus as my Savior and Messiah, I have also experienced goodness and mercy, and the peace and joy of knowing God's forgiveness. And this is something that I seek to share with my peers, and even with the prison's staff.
One of my favorite songs is by Christian music artist Steve Green, titled, "People Need the Lord." And it's my desire to introduce them to Him.
Even Jesus himself affirms this, "Those the Father has given Me will come to Me, and I will never reject them" (John 6:37). While in yet another Scripture passage, Jesus pleads, "Come unto Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light" (Matthew 11:28-30).
The Lord is a refuge indeed, and He welcomes all who call upon Him. His ears are open to our cries.
