It is my desire to touch the lives of others with the love of God...
This has been my prayer, and over time I am seeing this desire being fulfilled more and more. The Lord seems to be directing me to certain prisoners who are very open to talking about God. Mostly, however, they seem to be coming to me. The Lord has been sending the hurting and troubled, and those who need help and encouragement.
Yesterday, while I was eating my lunch, another prisoner sat down across from me. I could see that he was troubled. Grief was written all over his face. He told me that his father just passed away. Ironically, he is the fourth man who lost a parent within the past few weeks. However, we were able to talk for about ten minutes before we had to finish eating our meals and return to our respective cells. We met again later that day and then for several times today. He seems to be doing much better. This man is in his 40s and his father was in his 70s.
Unfortunately, he and his father had had a bad relationship. They were both alcoholics. The sad thing is that he was hoping to have some reconciliation between them when he got out of prison. This prisoner wept in front of me as he shared this. He knows that his desire for restoration and reconciliation will now never come to pass. And this man only has about one year left of his sentence. I prayed for him. It's difficult to know what to say. I told him that God knows his heart and knows that he truly longed to make peace with his father. I encouraged him to invite Jesus Christ into his life. He is spiritually hungry. He's not a Christian,
