The Bible never said that mankind would have a pain-free or trouble-free life on this earth...
God never said that in this present world we would live in perfect harmony with our fellowman. And while Christians are encouraged to strive to live at peace with others, we should realize that even with the best of intentions this will not always be possible. Instead, the Word of God makes it clear that all of us will have our share of pain, heartache, and sorrow, but it will be interspersed with periods of joy and good times.
Life is bittersweet. There are moments of grief as well as moments of happiness. During the periods or seasons of happiness, we need to be thankful and take note of time and truly appreciate even the simple things that are so easily taken for granted.
In the Scriptures, the wealthy and successful King Solomon said, "There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour." He then added, "This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God" (Ecclesiastes 2:24). However, in the verses immediately before this, the wise king said that life would also have grief and sorrow. "For what hath man of all his labour, and of the vexation of his heart, wherein he hath laboured under the sun? For all his days are sorrows, and his travail grief; yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. This is also vanity” (v. 22-23).
In light of this, I pray that all those who have lost loved ones in the recent terrorist attacks will find peace, solace, and comfort in a personal relationship with God. And I pray that each individual man, woman, or child will come to see God as a loving and compassionate heavenly Father who wants to take up each grieving person in His arms.
Finally, my prayer today is that many will find the spiritual path that leads to hope and healing, and that all who are suffering pain and loss at this time will still find many good things in life to be happy about. Amen! (See John 16:33; Philippians 4:6-7.)
