Because of their sacrifice, we can enjoy the freedoms we have today. May we never forget their service, and this truth.
For me, in addition to reflecting on the loss of countless lives who perished during times of war, I also spent time praying for our nation with regard to various issues and situations. I prayed for our leaders and for our military, as well as the nation as a whole.
This, after all, is what the words in the holy Bible instruct us to do. "I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men. For kings, and for all that are in authority that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior." 1 Timothy 2:1-3.
And as for me, today was also a day off from work. So with near perfect weather, I opted to go outside to our cell block's courtyard. I was able to join up with some friends, where we just sat in the sun for about an hour. For me, it was a time to unwind and relax and enjoy some good conversation.
As those who know me well can attest, I tend to overdo things. Be it work or church, or doing my own personal writing, I don't know when to slow down and rest. I'm hyperactive by nature, and I've paid a heavy price for it. But today, if only for an afternoon, I took time for myself.
