This afternoon I received a letter from a man in Rhode Island...
He said he is a "satanist" and he asked me my opinion on a few related things. His letter sounded intelligent and nice enough. Whether he is really a satanist or not, I have no way of knowing. But he did confess to it.
Usually, it takes me a little time to respond to my letters as I often have a big pile of yet to answer mail. However, after a brief silent prayer I sensed the Lord's leading to write back immediately with a short and kind letter, one typewritten page in length.
I simply discussed some of my past experiences. I then shared where Christ has brought my life up to this point.
In addition to sharing a little about the Lord, I told him plainly that the Bible reveals that Satan is a "thief" who comes to "steal, kill, and destroy" (John 10:10). I also shared the second portion of this verse which says that Jesus Christ has come to give people an "abundant life" of forgiveness, hope, joy and peace, as well as a personal relationship with Him.
I gently but firmly explained the nature of the devil, that he hates and despises humanity. That he has no love for anyone including his followers. When he is done using a person to further his own ends, he will discard that individual like a piece of rotten garbage.
To deliberately align oneself with and follow after such a being has to be the most foolish act against one's life and soul. I included a pamphlet of my testimony, and I will continue to pray for him. He gave his first name as "Mike."
