I went outside this morning to spend some time walking in the yard...
I also got to call a Christian brother, Heinz, who recently returned from another missionary trip to the Philippines.
Heinz told me that he was able to give out all the Christian books and Scripture booklets I ordered for him. I am always thrilled at the chance to be of help to reach people with the gospel in foreign lands and to be a part of missionary work.
However, later today I had to endure more of the hellish wildness in the cellblock, with some of the prisoners yelling and screaming for hours on end. One of the guys does this on purpose because he knows I am a Christian.
So this evening I went outside again even though it was very cold. Winter has not yet left the foothills of the Catskill Mountains. But going outdoors was, for me, another time to walk and pray and collect my thoughts. I felt that, earlier, I was going to lose my mind with all the yelling and the continuous blasting of "Hip-Hop" music.
Today seemed like an exhausting struggle. I was glad when it got to 11:15 in the evening. The TVs get shut off and these stressed-out men finally start to quiet down. But tomorrow is another day, and it will probably be more of the same. "Help, Lord!"
