Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things
have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Most people have no idea about the sorrow and regret I have over the past...

...and the loss of precious lives during the "Son of Sam" shooting rampage. For me, it was a nightmare that to this very day seems surreal. I am horrified at what happened, and it haunts me.
So naturally, I am troubled and saddened whenever someone tells me about a program they recently saw on television regarding the Son of Sam case. Of course they don't mean any harm by sharing this with me. They just wanted me to know that they watched a program on TV about my case, or something related to it. That's all. Yet it still hurts.
And I am troubled as well whenever I receive a letter from a media person asking if I want to talk with them about the crimes, and would I be willing to consent to an interview. This too grieves me. Not that anyone is trying to cause me pain, but rather it’s a growing sense of frustration within myself, wondering when these individuals are going to move on. These terrible crimes happened decades ago. "When is enough, enough?" I ask.
For me, looking at my life from the vantage point of the present, and knowing that my life is now "hid in Christ,"* I no longer live in the past. Instead, I live in the present with Jesus as my Savior and Lord. I have long since repented of my sins and have taken responsibility for my crimes. And I have long since renounced the pact I once made with Satan when I was in a very troubled frame of mind. And when, in those dark days, my soul was being vexed by demons, and by the teachings and channeled messages from the minds of evil men.
But unfortunately, most of America's media and a majority of its citizens are unaware of these facts. They have yet to perceive and understand the demonic dynamics that went on behind the scenes of the Son of Sam shootings, and the forces that drove it along. Likewise, they remain unaware of my own transformation from a son of the devil to a son of hope in God.
Thus, in essence, the media in its ignorance has been chasing a ghost. They've been pursuing the old David Berkowitz who's now dead, while being oblivious to the new David who has been born again, but who also has a lot of growing up to do, so as to become more like his Lord.
So until the media recognizes that the former David is dead, and a new David has taken his place, they will continue to be looking to interview a dead man. Frankly, I don't think they will have much success in such an endeavor.

*The term "hid in Christ" can be found in the apostle Paul's letter to the church in the biblical city of Colosse. "Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God" (Colossians 4:2-3).
