“Praise the Lord from the earth, you creatures of the ocean depths, fire and hail, snow
and clouds with stormy winds . . . mountains and all hills, fruit trees, and all cedars . . .”
Psalm 148:7-9.
It was surreal . . .
and clouds with stormy winds . . . mountains and all hills, fruit trees, and all cedars . . .”
Psalm 148:7-9.
It was surreal . . .
This morning I awoke to a bright orange and bronze sky, along with a murky haze of grayish smoke. And with it came a faint but noticeable acrid scent of burning wood. It was like a scene from the Twilight Zone, which was a popular science fiction television show that still airs reruns on occasion.
Such is the situation, as was reported in the news of another season of mysterious wildfires from the Canadian North. It first happened last year around this time, if I remember correctly. Now it's happening again. Hundreds of miles of burning forest land in the remote parts of Canada, which is now causing plumes of choking smoke to drift across parts of the United States from over 100 separate fires that are still burning out of control.
But it made me think of the book of the Revelation in the Bible. Because within its pages is prophesied a yet future time of judgment upon the earth, which will involve a large portion of the world's trees going up in flames, along with endless miles of grasslands. And this will in turn cause the life-giving rays of the sun to be unable to reach the earth's surface, thus resulting in a period of prolonged darkness and death.
According to the Scriptures, during the early part of the seven-year period of the Tribulation, as the yet to come Antichrist begins to establish his kingdom, the book of the Revelation states, “Then the seven angels with their seven trumpets prepared to blow their mighty blasts. The first angel blew his trumpet, and hail and fire mixed with blood were thrown down on the earth. One-third of the earth was set on fire, one-third of the trees were burned, and all the green grass was burned” (Revelation 8:6-7).
So, seeing the orange and bronze sky and the murky haze of clouds along with the pungent smell of smoke, triggered thoughts of what life may be like during the Tribulation. Yes, the holy Bible paints a catastrophic picture of life on earth after the Rapture of the church, and during the earth's remaining seven years before Messiah Jesus returns to stop the world from total destruction.
In the end, at the last-minute, Messiah Jesus will break through the clouds just as the “Battle of Armageddon” is about to begin. He will put a stop to it thereby saving the world from total annihilation, and in turn establishing a thousand years of peace.
The Lord will rule the planet from Jerusalem, thus fulfilling the prophecy found in the writings of both Isaiah and Micah in the Old Testament. As per the words of both prophets, it says, “And in the last days, he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore” (Isaiah 2:1-4 and Micah 4:1-3). Amen!
