The September 11th anniversary of those terrible terrorist attacks...
...is going to be coming up soon. I hope with all my heart that Jesus comes shortly for His church. For this world has too much pain for me. I remember how depressed I was for months following this tragedy. I read in the newspapers and magazines, or watched on television, so many stories about those who lost loved ones. So I think some of this depression may come back again.
I do a lot of quiet praying, especially late at night, for those who lost family members. I cannot imagine the pain and endless grief these survivors must have. I feel great sadness for all the kids who lost a parent. A couple of weeks ago, I read a lengthy story in the New York Times about a young boy who lost his fire lieutenant father in the World Trade Center conflagration. And since his dad's death, unfortunately, it's been a big struggle for his mother to raise him alone.
Frankly, I don't see how people even manage to keep their sanity without a deep faith in God. For a person to grieve alone is a terrible thing. At least a person who has faith in the Lord has God to turn to. For as the Bible says, "God is an ever present help in times of trouble" (Psalm 46:1). This particular psalm also says that the Lord is always with His children, that the "God of Jacob" is a "refuge" (Psalm 46:7). I'm thankful that He loves me, and that I can always pour my heart out and share my pain with God.
