Within the past few days, two notable earthquakes occurred...
The first was a major one which struck the island of Taiwan, causing much damage and resulting in the loss of lives. This especially affected me because I have a friend from the United States who's now living in Taiwan, where she serves as a missionary. So as soon as I heard the news, I sent word to see if she's okay.
While a day later a minor quake hit my area. Although there was no serious damage, it was felt by residents of the Hudson Valley where I live. In addition, it rumbled through parts of New Jersey, shaking homes and other buildings. And it also shook New York City, where startled and panicked people were seen running out of stores and office buildings, and into the streets.
Of no surprise, these two quakes remained "breaking news" for the next several days. It was the number one topic on peoples' lips. Let’s face it, earthquakes, like tornadoes, are terrifying things. Within minutes, they could wipe out whole towns and afflict tremendous damage to entire cities.
Even Jesus had something to say about earthquakes. To the Lord, they are some of the general signs of what the bible refers to as the signs of the "end of the age." He said, "Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: And great earthquakes shall occur in various places, and famines, and pestilences; with fearful sights and amazing signs appearing in the heavens" (Luke 21:10-11).
In the Scriptures, Messiah Jesus spoke much about His second coming. While His disciples, along with the apostle Paul, spoke and wrote about it, as well. This being the subject of the "end times," and the Lord's return. And this I believe it will indeed happen, maybe even in my lifetime.
Just think, that one glorious day, if I am still alive at the time, I could be transported to heaven in an instant of time during an event known as "the Rapture." No more prison for me. Hallelujah!
