As it often is with life, things are subject to change...
And this is true, be it in prison or on the outside. In here I've been seeing many new faces as our population is now entering into a state of change. With the passing of new transfer criteria, perhaps almost half of Shawangunk's population has transferred out to other facilities, while other prisoners have in turn transferred in. This has resulted in a big turnover.
Men whom I have known for at least several years, or longer, are gone. While new faces are everywhere. For an inmate like myself, who has been at this facility for eight years now, it's a strange feeling. The familiar faces I'm used to seeing are not around anymore. They've moved on. It's something I've learned to expect, yet it's also something I continue to dread.
In prison, what is familiar today, could become unfamiliar to me tomorrow. Yet through it all, God remains faithful. He replaces my uncertainties with His peace and comforts my heart in times of unwanted change.
