It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because
His compassions fail not. They are new every morning...

Lamentations 3:22-23
I have a friend who's been struggling with feelings of deep regret over a failed marriage, a prolonged battle with drug addiction, and the loss of custody of her children...
She has a big heart for her kids, one of whom is now in college. So in a letter I shared some of my own regrets, while at the same time reminding her of God's abundant mercy.
The Bible lets me know that God's mercies are renewed every morning. His compassion for His children never fails. Thus, each day we have the opportunity for a fresh start and a new beginning. Yesterday is already in the past. It's what we do right now that will count for the future.
I encouraged her to read Lamentations 3:21-26. It was written by the prophet Jeremiah, and it's one of my top ten favorite passages in the holy book. It's a must-read for every Christian.
